LYCLEAR
Lyclear is a medication used to treat infestations of crab lice and scabies on the body. It contains the active ingredient permethrin, which kills mites and lice. After the mites and lice are killed, other symptoms such as rash and itching will also clear up.

What is Lyclear?

Lyclear Dermal Cream is used to treat infestations of scabies and crabs (genital lice) on the body. Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites, which burrow into the upper layer of the skin and cause irritation, itching, burning, and discomfort.

Lyclear is available over the counter without a prescription. You can also buy it from us at Instant eCare.

For more information, consult the patient information leaflet.

How it works

Lyclear cream contains permethrin, an insecticide that kills the mites responsible for scabies and pubic lice. It binds to the nerve endings of the mites and crabs, causing them to be paralysed and eventually die. Lyclear only kills live lice - it does not affect any eggs that may be present.

Before you take it

Do not use Lyclear Dermal Cream if you are allergic to permethrin, pyrethrins, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. The full ingredients list can be found in the patient leaflet.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Lyclear Dermal Cream if you are treating children. Do not use Lyclear Dermal Cream in newborns and infants less than 2 months of age. We do not prescribe any medication to anyone under 18 years of age.

Do not swallow this medicine and avoid contact with eyes. Lyclear Dermal Cream is not known to interact with any medicines, however, tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other creams or skin products that you may be using.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Lyclear Dermal Cream. It is unknown if the permethrin may affect your unborn baby, or enter your breast milk.

Dosage Instructions

Always use Lyclear Dermal Cream exactly as your doctor has told you and never exceed the recommended dosage. Apply the cream to clean, dry, cool skin.

Scabies are highly contagious and can spread easily through skin contact. All members of a household, or those you interact with regularly, should be treated. It is advised to wash all bedding and clothing at 50C and avoid sharing towels.

People who live or work in close proximity to others, for example in nurseries, university halls of residence or nursing homes, are more at risk of contracting scabies.

To treat scabies it is recommended that adults apply up to 30g of cream. Lyclear should be applied to the whole body, including the neck, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Lyclear Dermal Cream should be applied at night, then washed off the following morning.

A second application is usually required to kill any eggs that have hatched after the first treatment. This should be applied in the same way, one week after the first treatment.

To treat pubic lice

Adults should apply up to 30g of cream to the affected areas. Any facial hair and eyelashes should be checked for the presence of live lice and eggs. Lyclear Dermal Cream should be applied at night, then washed off the following morning.

A second application is usually required to kill any eggs that have hatched after the first treatment. This should be applied in the same way, one week after the first treatment.

Take care not to allow the cream to get into contact with your eyes, or other sensitive, mucous membranes, like your mouth or nose. If this does occur, rinse thoroughly with water straight away.

If after a second application of using Lyclear Dermal Cream the condition shows no sign of improving, please speak to your doctor.
